When we first receive a precious gift, get a new phone, or something of high value, we take care of it and handle it carefully. But, after some time we forget about how we valued it when we first received it. Peter is challenging us in his letter to never lose sight of the immense value of the grace and peace of God. He gives us strong warns about people who seek to twist and distort the truth that would devalue the grace and peace believers receive. He encourages us also to anticipate the full joy of this precious gift when Christ will come again.
